Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 7th Instant on the subject of providing defences for the Colony of British Columbia, I am directed by Earl de Grey and Ripon to request that you will favour him with three copies of the Maps (large scale) ofthatManuscript image that Colony, which, as he is informed, have been sent home by the Surveyor General of Vancouver's Island.
The maps are required to enable due consideration to be given to the Subject in question.

I am informed by the Deputy Librarian that only one map of B.C. has been sent home from the Colony. I presume this Map shd be lent to the War Office, saying it is the only one we possess & requesting to have it returned.
