I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch, No.
               39, of the
7th of July, requesting that steps may be taken for sending
               to
Vancouver Island, for service in the Colony, a small number of
Policemen who have been trained in the
Irish
 Irish Police Force.

The measure which you recommend appears in itself desirable, but
adverting to the discussions which have taken place on financial matters
in the Colony, and not seeing in the Estimates which have come home any
appropriation by the Legislature for such a service, I feel it necessary
to refer to you in order to ascertain that the requisite funds are duly
placed at your control, before I can take any steps for procuring and
               sending out
the
 the required Policemen.
