No. 35, Miscellaneous
3rd June 1865
Sir,
I have the honor to forward a Petition entrusted to me for transmission by Mr Alfred Waddington together with a copy of his covering letter.
I have communicated a copy of the Petition to Governor Seymour to enable him to furnish you with any observations he may think itnecessaryManuscript image necessary to make upon it.
In the present state of public feeling in these Colonies I think I shall best consult the public interests by abstaining from comment upon the subject of this Petition which Governor Seymour will doubtless discuss fully.
I have only to add that the Petition, is most respectably and (in proportion to the population) numerously signed.
I have the honor to be,
Sir
Your most obedient Servant
A.E. Kennedy

Sir F. Rogers
A copy of this Petition having been sent to Govr Seymour we may expect a report from him on the subject.
Govr Seymour is fully alive to the importance of opening up the communications into the interior—& he has a Commr of Lands and Works who is quite ready & equal to the making of any roads whh it may be thought best to open. The question is which are the best routes to open, & where is the money for this communication to be found. The Victorians of course prefer that road which promotes their interests.
ABd 31 July
Yes. But we may as well tell Govr S. that it has been recd & that Mr C awaits his report in order to prevent the chance of its falling through & tell Gov. Kennedy that this has been done.
At once.
