No. 49
4th July 1865
Sir,
Referring to my Despatch No 85 dated 14th October 1864 reporting certain proceedings against the Ahousat Tribe of Indians at Clayoquot Sound, I have now the honor to transmit the copy of a Report from Lieutenant Hankin R.N., Superintendent of Police, whomManuscript image whom I lately had occasion to send to that place.
You will observe from the tenour of Mr Hankin's Report that the example which it was unhappily found necessary to make last year has not been without good effects and that there is every hope that the Indians at Clayoquot Sound will for the future abstain from outrages which brought the severe punishment upon them.
I enclose Lieutenant Hankin's Report in extenso as it contains information which may be newandManuscript image and interesting to you.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
