Copy, Allen Francis, U.S. Consul, to Kennedy, 7 August 1865, reporting
the warlike activities on the part of the
Shenandoah despite the cessation of hostilities in the United
States, and asking that one of Her Majesty's vessels stationed at
Victoria be sent to intercept the ship and promote her withdrawal.
Kennedy to Francis, 8 August 1865, advising that he would be
ready to act "were the means at my disposal," and commenting that
he would communicate on the matter with Admiral Denman.
