1 [Hare?] Court Temple
May 26/65
Sir
I understand that the Chief Justiceship of Vancouver's Island is vacant. I venture to apply for the appointment. I have been upon the Western Circuit ever since 1845, have often acted as Deputy County Court Judge, have for the last three years been revising barrister for the South of Devon & have received from the leadersManuscript image of my circuit & others testimonials which upon previous occasions I have submitted to the consideration of the Colonial Office.
I remain
Sir
your obedient Servant

The Col: Newspapers show that the Legve Assy have struck out of the Estimates the Salaries of the C. Justice—the Treasurer—& the Surveyor General. But this may not be final after all, & a better spirit may come over the House.
