Despatch from London.
Cardwell explains that he is unable to make a decision respecting the appointment of an Attorney General for Vancouver Island until the Assembly votes on a salary for the position, but that he currently believes the appointment should be made from this Country.

Sir,
With reference to your Despatch No. 74 of the 14th of September enclosing copy of a letter from Mr. Thomas L. Wood, I have the honor to inform you that I am unable to come to any definite conclusion respecting the appointment of an Attorney General for VancouverIslandManuscript image Island Island until the Assembly shall have voted a Salary for that Office, but as at present advised I consider that the appointment should be made from this Country.
