Romaine to Under-Secretary of State
5 November 1866
Sir,
I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that the sum of forty three pounds, four shillings (£43.4s.0d) is due to the officers of Her Majesty's Ship "Scout" on account of expenses incurred in the Entertainments specified overleaf and I am to request that you will move the Earl of Carnarvon to give directions for that amount to be transferred to the credit of Naval Funds in the hands of the Paymaster-General.
I am,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant

The minutes on 9586 say, very justly, that a charge of this kind
should be defrayed from some Colonial fund. Therefore the draft ought not to be worded as if Govr K. was required to pay it out of his own pocket. I have altered the draft accordingly. See Ady/10902.
