Adams was born 18 August 1807 to the American president John Quincy Adams.2 He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1841 to 1843, and a member of the state senate from 1844 to 1845. In 1861, he was appointed Minister to England by President Lincoln, which he served until
1868. He died in Boston, Mass., on 21 November 1886.3
