Bentinck Island is located off of southern Vancouver Island. It was, perhaps, named after Lord George Bentinck (1802-48), a British politician.1
This island served as the new lazaretto in 1924, following the colony closure on D'Arcy Island, and would remain so until 1956.2 Evidence of the colony remains, including a cemetery, where 13 Hansen's Disease patients
who died on the island are buried.3
