William Lane Booker served as acting British consul at
San Francisco from 5 July 1856 to 1 May 1857, and then as consulwhile in
San Francisco; he also served as agent to the P and O steamship line. In
January 1883, he became consul general for the states of
New York, Delaware, and Nebraska. He was made a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and,
in
1886, a CMG.
