According to Romaine, William Govett to Merivale, Herman 16 August 1858, CO 6:25, no. 8315, 34, Great Britain was a steam ship owned by Gibbs Bright and Company. They offered to bring British troops to Vancouver Island in 1858, an offer which the Admiralty declined.
