What’s new in this edition?

Edition 2.3

Edition 2.3 of the The Colonial Despatches of BC and Vancouver Island, released in 2022, brings the following updates:
  • The site design has been refreshed.
  • New content on decolonization has been added.
  • The Search page has been substantially enhanced with the addition of type-ahead controls to search more easily for proper names, and some detailed instructions for effective searching.

Edition 2.2

Edition 2.2 of The Colonial Despatches of BC and Vancouver Island, released in December 2020, brings the following updates:
  • Added more organizations to index as well as some descriptions (currently 64 organizations).
  • Tagged majority of organizations in the database (12761).
  • Added a few hundred more abstracts.
  • All places with a known location have a map.
  • The initial version of the Indigenous glossary of terms has been completed.
  • Fixed a couple encoding bugs (missing divs in transcribed enclosures, unwanted text edits).
  • Removed titles and roles from Despatch citations as per request from Principal Investigator.
  • Mentions of [entity] in the documents in the indexes are now sorted by date sent and date received when available.

Edition 2.1

Edition 2.1 of The Colonial Despatches of BC and Vancouver Island, released in July 2020, brings the following new features:
  • Several new sections have been added to the About page, including:
  • Many more biographies and abstracts have been added to the collection.
  • The search page now allows the use of wildcards (* = anything and ? = zero or one character). This can be helpful when searching for names or terms that may be inconsistently spelled.
  • The facsimile browser has been rewritten to improve its responsiveness.
  • Encoding Documentation and Guidelines have been updated.
