Canterbury, Archbishop of, to Lytton
Addington Croydon
Novr 4. 58
Sir
I had the honor of receiving a letter from you on 7th Octr last, 1 in which you were so good as to express your approbation of Miss Burdett Coutts liberal offer to endow a bishopric for the new colony of Columbia.
May I now take the liberty of mentioning the Revd George Hills as a person recommended to me as being eminently suited to such a position,Manuscript image and who has also the advantage of Miss Coutts' confidence. He is an honorary Canon of Norwich, & Incumbent of Yarmouth where his ministry for the last ten years has been remarkably successful.
I hope that I am not trespassing upon your indulgence in offering this nomination,
& have the honor to be Sir
your obedient & faith[ful] Servant
J.B. Cantaur
