Included is a draft from Merivale to G. A. Hamilton, Treasury, 7 June 1859, forwarding a copy of the despatch and requesting the bills be paid and added to
the account of the colony; and Moody to Douglas, 5 April 1859, requesting an advance warrant of £1500 for expenses of the Royal Engineers.
No. 126, Military Expenses
I have the honor to forward to you herewith the copy of
a letter I have received from Colonel Moody commanding the
Troops and Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works in British
Columbia making requisition upon me for the sum of One
Thousand, Five Hundred pounds (£1500) to enable him to defray the

Military Expenses of the Lands and Works Department, in respect
of the Barracks and other expenditure having reference to the
quartering and employment of the Troops in British Columbia,
and I beg to acquaint you that in consequence of there being
no Funds in the Colonial Chest to meet this demand I have
been necessitated to draw for the said Sum upon Her Majesty's
Paymaster General, who will be advised in due course of the
negociation of the Bills.

Another Bill from B. Columbia—to be followed, doubtless by others. I fear the Governor has misled us rather in his estimate of the Revenue of the Colony—& that the gold that reaches the Govt in the shape of duty, bears no proportion to the quantity obtained by the Miners.
