Colonel Moody, Commanding the Troops in
British Columbia,
having made requisition upon me for the sum of about Five
Thousand Two Hundred Pounds,
The Land Fund was ordered to bear these expenses as a
first charge. I am afraid the Gov has no intentions of obeying.
to meet the amounts of Colonial
Pay due to the Officers and Men of the Royal Engineers from the
11 September 1858 to the
31 May 1859, and also for the
Sum of One Thousand Two Hundred pounds to liquidate the amounts
due for working pay to the Force of Royal Marines serving in the
Colony, I have the honor to acquaint you that the Funds of the
Colony not being able to bear this demand upon them, I have been
obliged to direct the Treasurer to procure the Money by Bills
of Exchange upon Her Majesty's Paymaster General, and due notice
shall be rendered to that Officer
