Sir,
With reference to your letters of 26 April last and 7th Instant I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you for the information of the Duke of Newcastle, that they regret the necessity of proposing a vote for so large a sum on account of British Columbia, but, under the circumstances represented, their Lordships will submit the Estimate toManuscript imageto Parliament for the sum of £42.998. as recommended by His Grace.
They trust that all future expenditure, on account of this Colony, will be defrayed from the local Revenue.
