Lady Maitland presents her respectful compliments and having received instructions from her Husband R. Admiral Sir Thomas Maitland, Commander-in-Chief in the Pacific to invest money in "British Columbia" Colonial Government Stock, which the Admiral had reasons to suppose would be issued early inManuscript image November, and Lady Maitland not being able to ascertain whether or not authority has already emanated from the Colonial Office would feel extremely obliged to be informed if she may make application for the said Stock, and to tender every suitable apology if she has committed any irregularity by this application.

In 10581 the Governor reports that, if the Loan Act is confirmed, he has concluded arrangements with the Bank of B. Columbia for the negociation of the whole of the Loan (£50000). If so there will be no Stock available for private Investments?
