Sir,
Presuming that the Crown Agent for the Colonies would require authority for the issue of salaries to officers on leave in England, I have the honor to request that the necessary directions may be given in my favor for half salary (£750/2 per annum), since September 1st, the date on which my leave from B. Columbia commenced.
I have the honor to be Sir
Yr most obt Servant
W. Driscoll Gosset

Mr Elliot
No funds have been remitted by the Govr for this Officer's 1/2 pay. It is nevertheless impossible, I think, to throw discredit on our service by declining to pay, & I conclude we have no alternative but to direct the Agents Genl to make the necessary advance, writing to Mr Douglas in the usual strain.
ABd 17/3
I think so.
TFE 17/3
At once.

N.B. The above marginal statement is in consequence of a misapprehension on the part of the Agents General as to Major Gosset's leave.
