Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Your despatch
marked "Separate," of the 19th August last, calling my attention
to the circumstance that the sum of seven pounds eight shillings
and four pence is still due from Mr Begbiefor
for the charges on
his Commission as Judge of the Vice Admiralty Court of British Columbia.

2. On Mr Begbie's return from Circuit, I requested him to
furnish me with a report on the subject of your despatch. I have
the honor to transmit a copy of his reply.
3. Since the probability of any increase to the work of the
Vice Admiralty Court is very remote, I would beg to suggestfor

your consideration, whether instructions may not be given to relieve
Mr Begbie from the payment of the amount claimed.
