Hamilton to Rogers (Permanent Under-Secretary)
Treasury Chambers
13th June 1865
Sir
With reference to your letter of the 6th Instant enclosing a British Columbia Ordinance, No 18 of 1864, granting a Supplemental Supply of £60,076.8.8, out of the General Revenue of the Colony, for the service of the year 1864, I am desired by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to request that you will point out to Mr Secretary Cardwell that the despatch from the Governor forwarding this Ordinance does not contain any information as to the state of the Revenue from which this largeSupplementaryManuscript image Supplementary Expenditure has to be met;
Their Lordships would wish to know whether any reports upon that subject have been received from Governor Seymour, the reports of Survey of the Colonial Chest, and the mere Quarterly Abstracts, being all the information in the possession of this Board;
My Lords are of opinion that before this Law is sanctioned, a full statement as to the Revenue of 1864 should be required to be furnished.
The last Statement of the Revenue was for the Sepr quarter/64, recd in May/65—was sent to the T-y in the same month. We have no other fuller statement.
I am - Sir
Your obedient Servant
Geo. A. Hamilton
