Trutch to Elliot (Assistant Under-Secretary)
London
March 6th 1865
Sir
In reply to your letter of the 20th December 1864, I have the honor to submit the enclosed list of books on Engineering and Architectural Practice which in my opinion are desirable for the use of the Lands and Works Department of British Columbia.
I have appended in most cases the publisher's prices but I have ascertained that the books can be purchased at 25 per cent less than these advertised prices, which would reduce the cost of the whole to about Eighty pounds (£80.0.0)beingManuscript image being less than one half of the sum authorized by His Excellency Governor Seymour to be expended on this account.
I have the honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedient servant
Joseph W. Trutch

Asst Under Secretary of State

Mr Elliot
This is a goodly supply of information on Engineering & other subjects: but as the List of works denotes much practical utility & is less than half the cost of what Govr Seymour contemplated I conceive that the Crown Agents may be ordered to procure the Books.
