I have the honor to inform you that
M Walter Moberley
having resigned his seat as Member of the Legislative Council
for
Cariboo West, I instructed the Magistrate of the District
to call upon the Inhabitants
to to select a Representative to
fill the vacancy thus created.
2. Three candidates appeared to contest the election.
Doctor Black, who represented the district in the first Council,
M Evans, put forward by the Merchants of
Victoria to advocate
Union of the Colonies, and
M R. Smith, formerly a miner and now a Road Contractor. The latter Gentleman was selected by
a large majority.
