My Lord
I venture to enquire whether any information has lately been received at the Colonial Office relative to my nephew George Stephen Butler, who for several years has held a Government appointment at Lytton in British Columbia. His last letter was dated in June 1865, and being his nearest surviving relative, I am under considerable anxiety on his account and shall feel very much obliged by any reply Your Lordship mayManuscript image have it in your power to send to this Letter.
I may add that my nephew served in the Crimea as Lieutenant in the 17th Foot.
I have the honor to be
My Lord
Your Lordship's most
obedient humble Servant
Thos Butler
