Murdoch reports that he contacted Kennedy, but Kennedy was unable to provide any
reliabledetails regarding the sale of land from the public park in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Murdoch
apprehendsthat it is necessary to contact officials in British Columbia to determine the details of the sale. Elliot’s minute suggests referring to Seymour
as already proposed.

Sir,
With reference to your letter of 31st ultimo I have to report
for the information of the Earl of Carnarvon, that in obedience
to His Lordships instructions I have applied to Capt Kennedy
for information as to the extent and value of the Land erroneously
cut off from the Public Park at Victoria, Vancouver Island, and
sold by the Hudson Bay Co. Capt Kennedy, however, states that
in the absence of any documents to which he could refer, he is unable
to give any reliable information on the subject. I apprehend that
under these circumstances it will be necessary to apply to the Colony
for the particulars required for the settlement of the question.
