I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 27 of the
3rd of April, respecting the loss which the Colony sustains by the
present mode of paying Imperial pensioners resident in
British Columbia.
In reply I have to inform you that the Lords
Commissioners Commissioners of the
Treasury to whom your Despatch was referred have stated that they will
not object to your Government drawing Bills on the Paymaster General
half yearly, in advance, for sums not exceeding £150 each on account of
these pensioners. But in this case account and vouchers for the
expenditure of the money so drawn must be sent to this Country every
half year.
