Sir,
I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's
Treasury to state, for the information of Lord Granville, that,
under the circumstances stated in your Letter of the 26 August,
it appears to My Lords that the question of a Gratuity to Mr
Young, late Colonial Secretary in British Columbia, cannot for
the present at least be entertained.

1) Approve of payment of passage money in reply to 8142 & say that the question of compensation cannot at present be entertained. 2) Mr Young has accepted the Asst Col Secyship of Jamaica. Inform him of the above decision. 3) All the recent dispatches respecting his claims may now be marked off as disposed of.

I do not very well understand what the Treasy mean by "at present" but as he has some case (his salary in Jamaica being "at present" only equivalent to that of B.C.) the words may perhaps be left.
