I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to state, for the information of Lord Granville, that, under the circumstances stated in your Letter of the 26 August, it appears to My Lords that the question of a Gratuity to Mr Young, late Colonial Secretary in British Columbia, cannot for the present at least be entertained.

I do not very well understand what the Treasy mean by "at present" but as he has some case (his salary in Jamaica being "at present" only equivalent to that of B.C.) the words may perhaps be left.
