Trutch to Under-Secretary of State
10 Holles Street
Cavendish Square
Augt 22nd 1870
Sir,
I have the honour to inform you that I had an interview on the 18th instant with Mr Stanford in reference to the paragraph of your letter to me of the 17th instant directing me to obtain from Mr Stanford a guarantee that future additions and corrections of the Map of British Columbia the engraving and printing of which he has offered to undertake on terms which you have authorized me to accept, shall be made when required at his cost, and have sinceManuscript image received from him a letter a copy of which is herewith enclosed agreeing to make free of charge such additions to the map as may be required during the next three or four years.
Mr Stanford's proposal appears to me to secure to our Colony all the advantages in this respect that could reasonably be expected; but I await your further directions in the matter—as Mr Stanford's letter now forwarded does not convey the full guarantee prescribed in your letter of the 17th inst.
I have the honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedient servant
Joseph W. Trutch

The Under Secretary of State
