Sir,
I have laid before the Postmaster General your letter of the 11th Ultimo, enclosing a Statement of the amount paid by the Government of British Columbia for the conveyance of Mails between that Colony and San Francisco from the 1st of January to the 31st of December 1870; and I am directed by Mr Monsell to state that, in accordance with the regulation laid down by the Treasury in August 1867, he has caused an Account to be prepared, showing the total estimated cost of conveyance of the Mails between this Country and British Columbia, in both directions, during the year 1870, and the proportion of the cost chargeable to the Imperial Post Office and to the Colony respectively.
This Account, a copy of which is sent herewith, shows a balance of £813.5s.2d due totheManuscript image the Colony and a Warrant for this amount has been issued in favour of the Crown Agents for the Colonies.
Mr Monsell requests that the Earl of Kimberley will be good enough to forward the enclosed Account to the Governor of British Columbia, informing him that the balance has been paid.
