I have laid before the Postmaster General your letter of the
11 Ultimo, enclosing a Statement of the amount paid by the
Government of
British Columbia for the conveyance of Mails
between that Colony and
San Francisco from the
1 of January
to the 31 of December 1870; and I am directed by
M Monsell
to state that, in accordance with the regulation laid down by
the Treasury in
August 1867, he has caused an Account to be
prepared, showing the total estimated cost of conveyance of the
Mails between this Country and
British Columbia, in both
directions, during the year
1870, and the proportion of the cost
chargeable to the Imperial Post Office and to the Colony
respectively.
This Account, a copy of which is sent herewith, shows a balance
of £813.5.2 due to
the the Colony and a Warrant for this amount
has been issued in favour of the
Crown Agents for the Colonies.
