Griffiths writes to Hawes with the aim to solicit Grey for the position of commander of Enrolled Pensioners, under the Governor of Vancouver Island.
In the minutes, Blackwood points out that the position for which Griffiths solicits is handled by Douglas. Grey adds that nothing has been settled, and that such a position is dependent on the HBC covering the associated costs.
This file encloses a draft letter from the Colonial Office to Griffiths, advising that they are unable to employ him as commander of enrolled pensioners
of Vancouver Island at present.
