I am directed by the Earl of Clarendon to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 14th instant, Enclosing a copy of a despatch from the Governor of Vancouver's Island, reporting the assistance which he had afforded to Governor Stevens in the Indian war now raging in American Oregon, and I am to request that you will state to Mr Secretary Labouchere that the conduct of Governor Douglas appears to have been most judicious.
