I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Merivale's letter of the 17th Instant, transmitting Copy of a Despatch, from the Governor of Vancouver's Island, reporting the measure which he has taken for raising a local Force for the Protection of the Settlement, and I beg to convey to you the thanks of the Directors of the Hudson's Bay Company for the communication.
