With reference to Mr Fitzgeralds Letter of the 30th of September last, inclosing a copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Minister at Washington relative to the claim of Governor Douglas on the United States Government for the re-payment of a Sum of Money advanced by him in 1856 to the Authorities of Washington Territory, I am directed by the Earl of Malmesbury to transmit to you a copy of a further Despatch from Lord Napier inclosing a copy of the answer which he has received from the United StatesSecretaryManuscript image Secretary of State upon the subject of this claim.
