In compliance with your request, as conveyed to me in
M Merivale's letter of the
4 September, on the subject of the
compensation due to the
Hudson's Bay Company for expenses
incurred by them in connection with the colonization of
Vancouver's Island, I have now the honour to transmit an amended
account of the Sums claimed by the Company under that head,
drawn up in Strict conformity with the principle laid down by
the
Earl of Carnarvon in his letter of the
28 of July last.
