Barr enquires as to when appointments to New Caledonia will be made.
The minutes answer that very few apptments [sic] will be made directly but it would be fair to tell Barr that Lyttonfears he will be unable to offer him employment.
In my communication of Friday last I omitted to ask you to be kind enough to inform
me as to when it is expected that the appointments for the New Settlement in North
Western America will be made, for which I am a Candidate.
Waiting for Your reply,
I have the Honor to be, Sir,
Your Most obedient Servant, Robert Barr.
To Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office,
Downing Street.
Minutes by CO staff
Lord Carnarvon
Ansr that the very few apptments will be made directly; but that it is fair that the applicant
should know that Sir E. Lytton fears he will be unable to offer him employment.
