I am directed by the Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury, to acquaint you that the Paymaster General has been ordered to accept a Bill for £1,000, being portion of £2,000 referred to in your Letter of the 22nd Instant, which has been drawn by the Governor of Vancouver's Island, on account of expenses incurred in consequence of the occupation of the Island of San Juan by a body of American Troops.

Their Lordships request that you will move the Duke of Newcastle to Communicate with the War Department, with a view to some provision being made in the Army Estimates, for the expenses that may be incurred for this service.

Transmit the Govrs despch to the War office and also a copy of this letter from the Treasury, & request that the Under Secretary will submit these papers to Mr Herbert with a view to making in the Army Estimates such provision as may be requisite for this expenditure.
