When the first of the Governor's two despatches arrived, the Foreign
Office demurred to approving of his course until we should hear
further, and this is doubtless the reason why in their present letter
they intimate approval. It is another form of saying that they would
no longer object to express approval if desired. But it was decided
by the Duke on 4818 merely to acknowledge the Governor's two
                     despatches and this
has
has been done accordingly. We have had
subsequent reason not to be so well pleased with
Governor Douglas's correspondence with the Admiral. I think therefore that the present
                     letter may be put by.
