I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 55 of the 9th of November last, enclosing copies of your correspondence with Lieut. General Scott, commanding the United States Army relative to the adjustment of the difficultiesManuscript imagedifficulties which have arisen from the occupation of the Island of San Juan by the Troops of the United States Government.
It is only necessary for me to refer you, in answer, to the authority which I have already conveyed to you by my despatch of the 16th of November last, to act upon any proposition which might be made to you by General Scott for a joint military occupationManuscript imageoccupation of the Island, and I have no doubt that in accordance with that authority you will have arranged matters with General Scott.
