I have to acquaint you that I have authorized the Colonial Agents
General to issue to
Mr. Pemberton the sum of two hundred and fifty
pounds (£250) on account of the half salary due to him as Surveyor
General of
Vancouver Island while on leave of absence.
There are no funds, as you are aware belonging to the Colony of
Vancouver Island in the hands of the colonial Agents, and I have therefore to instruct you immediately
on the receipt of this despatch to remit the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds (£250)
to this Country in repayment of the advance thus made on account of the Colony.
