With reference to Mr Elliot's letter of the 24th Ultimo enclosing an Account of the Receipts and Disbursements of Imperial Funds in connection with the Island of San Juan from 1 January to 30 September 1862 I am desired by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to request that you will draw the attention of the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the discrepancy between the Balance at the foot of the Accounts for this Expenditure to 31 December 1861—viz £610.1—and the Balance brought forward in the present Account—viz £611.15.4.Manuscript image My Lords request that you will move the Duke of Newcastle to call upon the Accountant Mr Watson, Treasurer of Vancouver's Island for an explanation of this discrepancy.
