My Lord Duke
I have the honor to report that I have appointed Mr Henry Wakeford
Acting Colonial Secretary during Mr Young's absence on leave and
subject to your approval.
I deem myself fortunate in securing the services of Mr Wakeford who
has only just arrived from Western Australia where he has held
responsible offices under the Crown for manyyears years.
I had no public officer competent to fill the office, and no means of
procuring one to carry on the public service for the performance of
which Mr Wakeford's capacity and experience eminently fit him.
I have sanctioned half salary at the rate of £600 per annum subject
to your approval.
I have the honor to be
My Lord Duke
Your Graces very obedient Servant A.E. Kennedy
