Hammond forwards to the Colonial Office a copy of a despatch from Her Majesty’s Consul at San Francisco reporting the departure of Emigrants and Merchandize [sic] heading for the Fraser River.

Enclosed is Booker to Malmesbury advising that twenty-eight vessels with cargoes valued at £84,000 had left for Victoria in the past month, and about 24,000 people thus far for the year.

I am directed by the Earl of Malmesbury to transmit to you, for the information of Secretary Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton, a copy of a despatch from Her Majesty's Consul at San Francisco, reporting the departure of Emigrants and Merchandize for Fraser River.
