Sir,
I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you that a Bill has been presented at the Office of the Paymaster General, for the sum of £250, drawn by Mr W.A.G. Young, for the Governor of British Columbia; and I am to request that you will move the Duke of Newcastle to inform Their Lordships whether Mr Young has been Manuscript image been authorized to draw Bills for the Governor of the afore-mentioned Colony, and whether His Grace would recommend that this Bill should be accepted.
An early reply is requested.

I imagine that this is the Governor's Secretary who has thus drawn on the Treasury.
This Officer receives £500 a year from the Grant for B. Columbia but he has had no authority for drawing this Bill.
Perhaps the proper ansr to this Letter will be to inform the T-y that we conclude that Mr Young has Manuscript image drawn this Bill for his half year's Salary—though he has had no permission to do so—that the Bill had better be paid on account, and that an explanation shall be called for through the Governor?
