In reply to Mr Elliot's letter of the 3rd inst. I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you that the Paymaster General has been authorized to pay to Sir James Douglas the sum of £800, for Passage Allowance on his retirement from the joint government of Vancouver Island and British Columbia.
