Sir,
I have the honor to inform you that the Crown Agents are about to invest in the sums of £2250 and £1000 on account of the Sinking Funds of the two first Loans negotiated for the Colony of British Columbia, but before doing so they request to be informed whether the Investments are to be made as heretofore, in Consols, or in Colonial Government Securities, as sanctioned by your letter of the 11th ultimo for the last issue of £100,000 of British Columbia Securities.

I think that the T-y letter of the 6 ulto is sufficient Authority for enabling us to authorize the Crown Agents to follow the same course as they were told to take in our Letter of the 14 Decr. But it is easy to refer to the T-y if you prefer it.

In what case was it that we quite recently asked the Acting Governor to send home his consent to some such course?

In British Columbia (see correspce 26/66 B.C.) we authorized the temporary deposit in one of the Joint Stock Banks of £15000 not immediately required for the Service of the Colony—and this authority was given pending the consent of the local Govt.

Much obliged. I only wanted to refresh my memory. I think that we had better write to tell the Governor for his infn of all the investments on acct of the sinking fund. Will you collect them together, & prepare draft telling him.
