William Charles Sargeaunt was a supernumerary clerk in the Colonial Office from 8
February 1848 to 8 February 1849, when he became assistant junior clerk.He remained
at that post until 13 April 1858, when he became junior clerk. On 1 January 1860,
Sargeaunt was promoted assistant clerk, remaining until 1862 when he left office to
become agent general for the crown colonies.
