Seymour to Elliot (Assistant Under-Secretary)
London
28th of April 1866
Sir,
The British Columbian Ordinance, No 24 of the 11th of April 1865 grants an addition of one thousand a year to the salary of the Governor of the Colony. The operation of the Act to commence from the date of the passing thereof, but no payment to be made under it until Her Majesty's confirmation shall have been duly proclaimed.

I beg leave to enclose a local newspaper shewing that such proclamation took place on the 6th of January 1866. It occurs to me that the amount due to me on account of the increased salary from the date of the passing of the Act until I ceased to draw my pay from the local Treasury on my departure from the Colony (31st of August 1865) might perhaps be with convenience paid into my bankers' hands in New Westminster. TheManuscript image Agents General for Crown Colonies might perhaps be instructed by you to give me the increased rate from the time when I first drew salary from them, namely the first of September 1865.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your most obedient humble Servant
Frederick Seymour

Mr Elliot
I think that the enclosed announcement in the Colony of the Queens sanction of the Ordce increasing the Salary of the Governor of B.C. is sufficient to authorize payment of the Governor's Salary at the increased rate. I am aware of no objection to Mr Seymour's salary, up to the time of his departure from the Colony, being paid to his Bankers in N.Wr if he chooses so to instruct his local Agents, and there is certainly no objection to the Crown Agents paying him here that amount of increased salary, at the rate of £500 per ann, which is due to him.
ABd 30 April
I annex drafts to the Acting Governor, the Agents and Mr Seymour.
