My Lord,
With reference to the question of the Northwestern Boundary and the possession of the Island of San Juan, I have the honor to enclose for Your Lordship's information atracingManuscript image tracing of a portion of a Map published in 1848 under the authority of the Senate of the United States, of which a copy has been found here in the Lands & Works Office. I believe this to be the one referred to by Captain Prevost in his correspondence with Mr Archibald Campbell on the discussion of thequestionManuscript image question of Boundary in November 1857. Probably Your Lordship's Department is already furnished with this Map, but it may be useful to know where another Copy can be found in case one should be wanted. It certainly appears to afford evidence that at the date if its compilation the group of Islands in the Gulf ofGeorgiaManuscript image Georgia Georgia was regarded by the authorities of the United States as belonging to Vancouver Island.
