Douglas acknowledges the receipt of Labouchere’s despatches which approve of measures taken by Douglas for the protection of settlements on Vancouver Island.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt on the 9th of
Instant, of your Despatch No 11 of the 15th of May last, approving of the measures adopted for the protection of the Settlements in this
Colony and also of the Circular Despatches of the dates noted in the
margin,
with their enclosures, to which every attention will
